On Sunday, February 25, 2017, The Calgary Hitmen host the second annual #TalkToday game as they play the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region and the Calgary Hitmen have teamed up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health. This initiative is part of #TalkToday, a joint Canadian Mental Health Association, Western Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League project that aims to promote the mental health of young athletes and raise awareness about suicide and suicide prevention.
A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. CMHA Calgary has been working with Calgary Hitmen players and coaches to provide mental health education. The team is now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach who can provide support and mental health resources to those individuals in need.
Visit CMHA Calgary at the game on Sunday on the main concourse to learn more about mental health. Use the hashtag #TalkToday to follow along with the night’s event or to share your story.
