POSITION TITLE:              Community Planner 

JOB CLASSIFICATION:   Term Contract (12 Months) Flexible Schedule 

JOB SUMMARY:               The Community Planner is responsible for the coordination, implementation and administration for CMHA’s Centre for Excellence in Recovery and Peer Support and the Calgary Council for Addiction and Mental Health (CCAMH).

                                           Bringing exceptional organizational and collaborative skills, and a curiosity for how systems work, will lead to better coordination of mental health and addiction continuum of supports. This position reports under a co-leadership framework.

Project Responsibilities

  • Coordination and implementation of 12 CCAMH meetings per year (revisiting strategic action plans, consistent communication between committees,
    organizing and coordinating working group and/or steering committee meetings and working groups).
  • Encourage integrative, productive working relationships and engagement with wide a range of organizations and individuals (up to 80 stakeholders).
  • Conduct research and scans to keep abreast of current and new activities and stakeholders, and to identify new trends and practices that could
    enhance the impact of CCAMH and the Centre for Excellence; synthesizing information and recommending responses.
  • Assist in seeking and developing multiple grant applications that are in alignment to the CMHA fund development strategy and completing followup
  • In partnership with the CMHA Impact and Evaluation Team and external evaluation; monitor project effectiveness and trends, analyze and apply
    research, and create goals and set measurable objectives for CCAMH and the Centre for Excellence.


  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or certificate in relevant field (Business, Sociology, Economics or Social Policy and Research).
  • Minimum of 2 – 5 years’ experience required.
  • Analytical, collaborative, and creative thinker; able to understand complex issues.
  • Superior written and spoken communication required.
  • Track record of coordinating large flexible and collaborative initiatives.
  • Experience in coordinating project design, management, monitoring, budgeting and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of local mental health and/or addiction systems and community environment.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines, work flexible hours when required, and manage a variety of tasks concurrently.
  • Knowledge and experience of funding/granting practices considered an asset.
