The Peer Support worker is an individual with lived experience of a mental health and/or addiction issue. Their role will be to help provide navigation of mental health and addiction services in Calgary, as well as support the recovery journey of vulnerable clients through one on one support either in person, via email or over the phone.
The successful candidate will offer supportive listening skills, peer support and advocacy. The peer support worker will enhance our programs and services to the mental health community by bringing their ability to quickly connect with underserved and disconnected individuals in the community. Their lived experience fosters trust and decreases stigma.
The candidate will have evidenced interest in community based programs and supports with a demonstrated understanding of mental health and the recovery model.
The Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region is a leader in promoting mental health and wellness through comprehensive community-based services for individuals, families, groups and organizations. Established in Calgary in 1955, we are a community based organization that provides mental health education and support services. We are currently accepting applications for the position title below:
Canadian Mental Health Association, Calgary Region builds awareness and provides education and support for individuals and families living with a mental health condition, addiction, or a loss by suicide. We provide community-based support programs, including post discharge/supportive living, street outreach, suicide bereavement and family support counselling therapy, and peer support programs for families and individuals.
We work closely with other community organizations to assist in bridging gaps in the mental health care system and facilitate access to important services and resources. CMHA Calgary strives to improve public understanding of mental health conditions at home, in the community and in the workplace through community education, influencing policy and mental health awareness initiatives.
