I always look forward to fall; the turning leaves, cool crisp air, the inundation of pumpkin flavoured everything but the thing I get most excited about is the annual Music 4 Life concert hosted by I Will Survive.
For the past five years, I Will Survive has put on an event at a trendy venue in Calgary and everyone who gathers spends the night socializing, bidding on amazing local auction items and dancing the night away to talented musicians and artists. What more could you want?
But the thing I love most about this event is that it is a way of bringing people together to start discussions about two of the most difficult topics: mental health and suicide. Not everyone who attends has experienced bouts of poor mental health or had someone close to them die by suicide, but we all know that ending the stigma is important and so we gather to talk and laugh and honour those we’ve lost too soon but we also stand to provide a solidarity to those who fight the mental health fight daily. That is what I love most about the Music 4 Life events!
This year, the Music 4 Life concert series features acts who wholeheartedly believe in the work I Will Survive is doing and have previously been showcased at events. Local artists, Run Deer Run and The Sweets are back for another year and Mark Mills will be headlining and if that’s not enough, DJ Mojo will be hosting the after party! Um, YES!
October 13, 2018, has been in my calendar for months (I may have an “in” with IWS) and now that it’s only two weeks away, I can’t wait to see all those familiar faces at the Blind Beggar pub on Saturday night to enjoy another great event all in support of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
Since it would be a shame to miss such a great event, you can buy your tickets at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/music-4-life-concert-2018-tickets-49553133757 or learn more about the work I Will Survive is doing at http://music4lifeconcert.com/
