Independent Living Support  

The Independent Living Support program (ILS) helps clients live independently in the community by providing emotional support and developing living skills like budgeting, cooking, and self care, as well as coping skills to better manage their condition. The program encourages clients to live as independently as their disorder will allow.

Services Offered
Services are offered at various mental health clinics and throughout the community. Services include the following:

  • Assistance in finding suitable accommodations and furnishings
  • Building of daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and shopping
  • Establishment of support networks such as friends, family, support groups, etc.
  • Assistance in the development of household and daily routines
  • Connection with various community resources
  • Referral to skill-building groups and workshops
  • Social and recreational opportunities

Admission Criteria
To become a client of the ILS program individuals must be 18 years of age or over and have a primary diagnosis of a mental disorder. Clients must also be under psychiatric/medical care and show a demonstrated need to ILS services to live independently.

Referral:
A referral can be received from:

  • The adult client
  • Family member
  • Therapist
  • Hospital, clinic or other community agency
  • Anyone in the community

The client must consent to the referral in all cases.

This free 8-week interactive workshop is designed to help participants understand more about issues that impact their mental health.
