Every year, over 500 people die by suicide in Alberta. Those left behind are left to navigate an often complex grief process that comes with a loss by suicide. Music based interventions can help process some of life’s daily challenges or help reconnect with a part of one’s self that may feel lost. We all connect with music at some level and in music therapy you will tap into your own innate musicality.

What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is the specific and intentional use of musical elements to meet a specific goal or objective. Certified Music Therapists (MTAs) focus on a person’s most innate musicality. They use active and receptive music techniques for example: improvisation, lyric analysis, listening, singing or songwriting. Music Therapy can promote physical, emotional, cognitive and mental change or growth. Within sessions music therapists create an inclusive environment and therapeutic space where creativity and self-expression are celebrated.
