POSITION TITLE: Lead Counsellor

PROGRAM: Counselling Therapy Program

JOB STATUS: 1.0 FTE Permanent Position, Health and Dental Benefits after successful 3 month probationary period 35 hours/week.

JOB SUMMARY: The lead counsellor is responsible for counselling clients as well as clinical
oversight of student interns and staff of the counselling therapy program.

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations and Programs

CLIENT SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide clinical supervision, guidance, support and mentorship to Counselling Therapists
    and Student Interns to ensure smooth running of the day-to-day operations within the
    Counselling Team.
  • Adhere to the values and policies of CMHA Calgary region.
  • Ongoing consultation and connections with various internal CMHA Calgary programs.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Program Manager of Operations, the Senior Counselling
    Therapist will assist in project development and management of the Counselling
    Therapy Program.
  • Operational oversight including work plans, timelines, supervision, coordination for
    various projects (i.e. Community Connect YYC, etc.)
  • Provide intra-agency presentations on CMHA services and the value of counselling
    therapeutic support.
  • Participate in building alliance and networking with community partners, groups and
    individuals to address common needs and issues and to further the programmatic areas
    of counselling therapy as it relates to CMHA Calgary.
  • Ensure collecting and reporting appropriate data input, collection and flow to the Impact
    and Evaluations Team is timely to ensure reporting is done timely and thoroughly.
  • Remain current with new policies, training, services, resources and legislation applicable
    to the mental health/counselling program.
  • Promote the principles of diversity and equity in all work-related duties, wherever
    applicable.
  • Identify and support quality improvement initiatives through data, observation, and
    feedback received from staff and clients.
  • Collaboration of all research initiatives between internal and external stakeholders to
    ensure appropriate coordination and interaction of participants.

SUPERVISION

  • Provide regular clinical supervision to the counselling therapists and student interns;
    both individual and group on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Auditing data base regularly to ensure that staff input client notes and information appropriately.
  • Ensuring that the counselling therapists are meeting their professional development goals.
  • Promote self-development and continuing personal development.
  • To promote the principles of diversity and equity in all work-related duties, whenever applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in counselling, psychology, social work or equivalent.
  • Certification and experience in clinical supervision is required.
  • Knowledge of local mental health and/or addiction systems and community services.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mental health setting.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in verbal, written and computer-based communication styles.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with people.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to design and implement processes and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and the use of the internet.

    operational planning and management of the agency.
