2,000 Push-Ups in 23 Days: Is Calgary Up for the Push for Mental Health?
Jan 14, 2026
Calgary, AB | January 2026 — Calgarians are being invited to push for better mental health this February as The Push-Up Challenge returns in 2026, encouraging people across the city to get active, connect with others, and support local mental health services.
Running from February 5 to 27, 2026, participants will take on 2,000 push-ups over 23 days, a powerful reminder of the approximately 2,000 lives lost to suicide each day worldwide, while raising vital funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region.
The Push-Up Challenge is Canada’s largest mental health and fitness event, engaging people of all ages and abilities through physical activity, education, and community connection. In Calgary, individuals, workplaces, gyms, clubs, and schools are encouraged to take part, whether solo or as a team.
Linda McLean, Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region, said the Push Up Challenge offers Calgarians a powerful and accessible way to take action for mental health.
“The Push Up Challenge brings people together in a way that feels positive, inclusive, and achievable. It encourages movement, connection, and learning, while reminding us that mental health is something we all need to care for — in ourselves and in each other. By taking part, Calgarians are not only challenging themselves physically, they’re also helping strengthen access to mental health supports right here in our community, reducing stigma and building a healthier, more connected Calgary,”
The Push-Up Challenge is free to register, with participants able to fundraise in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region.
Throughout the challenge, participants learn daily mental health facts, with the number of push-ups changing each day to reflect key mental health statistics. The event is designed to be inclusive, with alternatives such as squats, sit-ups, or other exercises available for those unable to complete traditional push-ups.
Having run internationally for several years, The Push-Up Challenge has engaged more than one million participants worldwide, who have completed over one billion push-ups in support of mental health causes.
The Push-Up Challenge 2026 runs from February 5 to 27.
Calgarians can register as an individual, team, or workplace and support CMHA Calgary Region at: https://www.thepushupchallenge.ca/beneficiary/cmha-alberta—calgary
