Volunteer
Volunteers are a key part of how we show up for community at CMHA Calgary. As we continue to grow, we’re building a more structured, intentional volunteer program that connects people to meaningful roles across our work.
Whether you’re supporting a community event, helping create a welcoming space, or contributing behind the scenes, volunteering with us is about being part of something that makes a real difference.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering with CMHA Calgary is a way to contribute to community mental health in a practical, grounded way. Our volunteers help create connection, reduce isolation, and support the delivery of programs and events across the organization.
Through volunteering, you can:
- Build experience in community-based mental health work
- Connect with others who care about mental health and wellbeing
- Contribute your time and skills in ways that are flexible and meaningful
- Be part of a team that values respect, inclusion, and lived experience
Where You Can Get Involved
Our volunteer roles are designed to complement and support the work of our staff and peer teams. Opportunities may include, but are not limited to:

Support CMHA Calgary events, campaigns, and third-party fundraisers. This can include setup, guest support, and helping create a positive and welcoming experience alongside staff.
Program Support
Provide light-touch support during group settings or educational sessions, such as assisting with logistics, materials, and room setup, helping ensure programs run smoothly.
Community Spaces
Help create a welcoming environment for individuals accessing our space by greeting visitors and supporting the overall flow of the space, while staff and peers lead service delivery.
Behind the Scenes Support
Assist with administrative tasks, preparation of material
Our Approach to Volunteering
We’re building a volunteer program that is:
- Structured – Clear roles, expectations, and support
- Responsive – Aligned with program and community needs
- Supportive – Volunteers are set up for success with onboarding and guidance
- Respectful – Grounded in CMHA Calgary’s values and commitment to safe, inclusive spaces
Volunteers are not expected to provide counselling or crisis support. Instead, your role is to contribute to a welcoming, supportive environment alongside our staff and peer teams.
