AARA Members ‘Raise the Roof’ for CMHA Calgary’s Edge House
Nov 3, 2025
On October 28, members of the Alberta Allied Roofing Association (AARA) literally raised the roof, replacing the aging roof at Edge House, one of CMHA Calgary’s supportive housing facilities in northeast Calgary.
Through donated materials, labour, and expertise, AARA members ensured the building remains safe, secure, and comfortable for residents living with mental health challenges. Their work goes beyond construction; it is an investment in stability, dignity, and recovery.
A Partnership Built on Shared Purpose
This project builds on a long-standing partnership between AARA and CMHA Calgary. For several years, AARA has supported CMHA Calgary through fundraising events such as its annual golf tournament. This year, that relationship moved from the greens to the rooftop as industry professionals came together to make a tangible difference in the lives of community members.
“Safe, well-maintained housing is the foundation of recovery,” said Linda McLean, Executive Director of CMHA Calgary. “When people have a secure place to live, they can focus on their wellness, reconnect with their community, and move forward. The generosity and teamwork shown by AARA members have made a real and lasting impact on the lives of our residents.”
Industry Collaboration in Action
The roof replacement at Edge House demonstrates the power of industry giving back. By donating time, materials, and expertise, AARA members helped ensure the long-term safety and sustainability of the building, allowing CMHA Calgary to direct more resources toward essential mental health programs and services.
“We are incredibly proud of our AARA members who generously donated their time, expertise, and materials to replace the aged roof on the CMHA’s Edge House. Replacing this roof is more than a project, it’s a commitment to mental health. In an industry where suicide rates are 3 times higher than average, this work truly matters,” said Chelsea Broadridge, Executive Director, Alberta Allied Roofing Association.
This effort was made possible thanks to the generosity and collaboration of AARA member companies and suppliers, including:
- Euroshield – roofing materials
- Duraflo – ventilation
- GAF Canada – underlayment / ice & water
- Meerkat Roofing & Exteriors and Epic Roofing & Exteriors – all metals (drip edge & valleys)
- Superior Roofing – disposal bin and labour
- Angels Roofing – labour
- Guns n Hoses Roofing, Exteriors & Insulation – labour
- Alfa Roofing & Siding – labour
- Calgary Elite Roofing – labour
- Fortress Roofing & Exteriors – labour
- Razphalt – asphalt shingle recycling (keeps majority of disposal out of the landfill)
Each partner played a key role in ensuring the project’s success, from providing roofing materials and equipment to contributing skilled labour onsite.
Building More Than Roofs
CMHA Calgary extends heartfelt thanks to AARA and all participating companies for their commitment and generosity. Their contribution ensures that Edge House continues to be a place of safety, dignity, and hope for the people we serve.
Together, we are building more than roofs; we are building recovery, connection, and community.
