Hilary German Recounts her Brother’s 7 Year Battle with Schizoaffective Disorder

Will German was 19 years old when he experienced a psychotic break that eventually led to a diagnosis of Schizoaffective Disorder.

The mental disorder, one that is not well understood in the medical world, would dramatically change his and the German family’s life. Hilary and her family watched Will spend the last years of his life in and out of the hospital in search of the right medication that would help him manage the severe and traumatic symptoms of his illness.

Hilary recounts the story of her brother’s struggle and shares why she is raising money and awareness through Ride Don’t Hide, a CMHA nation-wide event.

Ride Don’t Hide is a community bike ride hosted by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), with the goal to raise awareness and help break the stigma surrounding mental health while raising essential funds to support mental health programs and services.

CMHA rides will be hosted in four provinces in over 30 communities with the aim to engage over 6,000 participants and raise $1,000,000. Learn more or join the ride by visiting ridedonthide.com.
