CMHA Calgary Launches New Podcast Series: As I, A Peer

Calgary, AB – The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Calgary Region is excited to announce the launch of its new podcast series, As I, A Peer. Hosted by Jeff Turner from the School of Peer Support, the series highlights the power of Peer Support through personal stories and meaningful conversations.
The first episode, “Art, Advocacy, and Resilience: Kamika Bianca Guerra-Walker’s Journey to Inspire Change,” is now live. It features Kamika Bianca Guerra-Walker, a multidisciplinary artist of Jamaican and Chilean heritage who was recently named Calgary’s 2024 Emerging Artist of the Year.
In this inspiring episode, Kamika shares her journey as a filmmaker, producer, writer, and mental health advocate. She discusses her feature documentary, Finding My Way Back to You, which chronicles her emotional reunion with her father in Jamaica after 17 years apart due to his schizophrenia diagnosis. Kamika’s work has been recognized by Netflix, Telefilm, and the Canadian Academy of Cinema & Television, highlighting the importance of mental health, family connections, and advocacy.
As I, A Peer reflects CMHA Calgary’s commitment to amplifying the voices of those with lived mental health experiences. The podcast is designed to foster hope, resilience, and understanding within the community.
