CMHA Calgary Teams Up with the Calgary Canucks to Raise Awareness for Mental Health
Dec 27, 2024
This December, CMHA Calgary partnered with the Calgary Canucks hockey team at two games on December 20 and 22 to shine a spotlight on mental health and support the Patch the Gaps annual giving campaign.
Bringing Mental Health to the Forefront
As an organization dedicated to mental health advocacy, CMHA Calgary sought to harness the community spirit found in hockey to engage fans and players alike in an important conversation: closing the gaps in mental health care. At both games, CMHA Calgary set up an interactive booth to connect with attendees, share resources, and spread awareness about the Patch the Gaps campaign.
The campaign highlights the urgent need to bridge existing gaps in mental health services, ensuring accessible, timely, and effective care for everyone. With mental health challenges becoming increasingly prevalent, particularly during the holiday season, this partnership with the Calgary Canucks provided a unique platform to drive this message home.
Engaging Fans for a Cause
Throughout the games, CMHA Calgary volunteers and staff worked to engage with the Canucks’ passionate fanbase. Fans were invited to learn more about the services CMHA Calgary advocates for and the importance of mental health care. The booth featured resources and informational materials to educate attendees on the Patch the Gaps campaign and its mission.
Fans were also encouraged to contribute directly to the campaign through donations. By rallying the community’s support, CMHA Calgary aimed to make a tangible impact on mental health services in the region.
Supporting Patch the Gaps
The Patch the Gaps annual giving campaign aims to fill critical gaps in mental health care services. Donations raised through the campaign directly fund programs that:
- Support efforts to bring back counseling services for individuals in crisis, which were previously cut due to funding constraints.
- Expand peer support initiatives for those navigating mental health challenges.
- Create community-based solutions to ensure no one feels alone in their mental health journey.
With the help of the Calgary Canucks and their dedicated fanbase, CMHA Calgary successfully raised awareness and funds for this vital initiative. Every contribution, big or small, brings the organization one step closer to achieving its goal of accessible mental health care for all.
A Winning Partnership
This collaboration between CMHA Calgary and the Calgary Canucks is a testament to the power of sports and community coming together for a greater cause. The Canucks’ support not only amplified the Patch the Gaps campaign but also underscored the importance of mental health in athletics and beyond.
Whether it’s on the ice or in the stands, it’s clear that teamwork extends beyond the rink. By rallying behind CMHA Calgary’s mission, the Calgary Canucks and their fans have shown that together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of many.
