Helping Young Minds Grow Stronger with KidSMART
May 20, 2025
At CMHA Calgary, we know that early mental health education plays a powerful role in building lifelong resiliency. That’s why we’re proud to share how KidSMART, our mental health education for Grades 4 to 6, has grown since its launch in 2023.
What started as a classroom resource has become a hands-on, in-person experience for young learners across Calgary and the surrounding area. Thanks to Calgary Foundation’s generous support, they have helped us expand KidSMART, bringing in-person mental health literacy sessions to Grades 4-6 in schools and community groups across Calgary.
Led by our dedicated facilitators, these workshops focus on:
- Mental Health Awareness
- Stress Management and Healthy Coping
- Skills for Being There
“Each day I personally observe students gain confidence, knowledge, and healthy coping strategies through our interactive activities and discussions. I truly believe our KidSMART program is crucial in normalizing mental health and supporting people living with mental illness within our community,” says Bree one of our wonderful Mental Health Facilitators for Community Education and Wellness.
In just six months, we’ve delivered nearly 70 sessions, giving hundreds of young people the chance to build their mental health literacy in supportive, age-appropriate environments.
We’re well on our way to reaching 500 youths this year — and every session brings us closer to a community where young people feel empowered to care for their mental well-being and their community.
At CMHA Calgary, we reach around 20,000 students each year — creating spaces for learning, connection, and resilience. We’re also here to support the parents, educators, and caregivers who walk alongside them on their mental health journey.
A heartfelt thank you to the Calgary Foundation for making KidSMART’s in-person delivery possible. Their generosity is helping us build stronger foundations for mental wellness —starting in childhood.
Together, we’re shaping a future where youth can thrive — mentally, emotionally, and socially.
