2,000 Push-Ups in 18 Days: Are You Up for the Challenge, Calgary?
Jan 14, 2025
This February, the Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region (CMHA Calgary) is calling on Calgarians to push for better mental health by participating in the fitness-based initiative, The Push-Up Challenge.
The event invites participants to complete 2,000 push-ups over 18 days, symbolizing the 2,000 lives lost to suicide each day worldwide. Kicking off on February 11th and running through February 28th, the challenge is an opportunity to connect, engage in physical activity, and foster mental health awareness.
Linda McLean, Executive Director, CMHA Calgary, shared, “The Push-Up Challenge is a fantastic way for Calgarians to come together to improve both their physical and mental well-being while making a tangible impact in our community. Mental health touches us all, and by joining this event, we aim to break the stigma surrounding mental illness and ensure everyone knows they are not alone.”
Proceeds raised during the challenge will support CMHA Calgary’s initiatives, including Recovery College, which offers free courses to help individuals explore strategies for mental wellness, and the Peer Support Program, where those with lived experience provide guidance and understanding to others.
Participants will learn about mental health through daily facts and flexible exercise options, including sit-ups, squats, or other activities. The challenge is open to all ages and abilities, with progress tracked via a user-friendly app that also enables fundraising.
Since its inception in Australia, The Push-Up Challenge has engaged over 700,000 participants and raised more than $50 million for mental health. This marks its second year in Canada, continuing its mission to improve mental health awareness and support services.
