Empowering Youth Mental Health: CMHA Calgary Receives $10,000 Grant from Calgary Flames Foundation
Jun 3, 2025
The Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region (CMHA Calgary) is honoured to be a recipient of the Calgary Flames Foundation’s 2025 Community Grant, receiving $10,000 in support of our YouthSMART (Youth Supporting Mental Health and Resiliency Together) program. This generous investment will help expand our mental health education and peer-support initiatives for youth across Calgary and area.
YouthSMART is a youth-led mental health education program that provides school-aged youth with the tools to understand, talk about, and manage mental health challenges. Serving nearly 25,000 youth each year, YouthSMART offers workshops on mental health awareness, stress management, stigma reduction, and how to support friends facing mental health issues. Sessions are interactive, age-appropriate, and available both in-person and virtually.
This grant from the Calgary Flames Foundation will enable us to:
Expand YouthSMART programming to more schools and community organizations
Enhance peer leadership and student engagement opportunities
Create inclusive and supportive environments for youth to build resilience and seek help when needed
The impact of YouthSMART is already clear. Following our workshops, over 90% of students report feeling more confident in recognizing mental health issues, supporting peers, and knowing where to seek help.
“We are deeply grateful to the Calgary Flames Foundation for recognizing the importance of youth mental health,” said Linda McLean, Executive Director of CMHA Calgary. “This funding ensures more young people in our community can access tools and resources that promote mental wellness and resilience at a critical stage in their development.”
The Calgary Flames Foundation’s commitment to supporting youth, health, and education in southern Alberta is making a real difference. CMHA Calgary is proud to be part of this community of changemakers.
