United Way of Calgary’s Support Empowers CMHA Calgary’s Mental Health Services
As the United Way of Calgary and Area (UWCA) drives its annual campaign, we are reminded of the extraordinary power of community. At the Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region (CMHA Calgary), we witness firsthand how United Way’s support creates lasting ripples of hope and opportunity for those facing mental health and substance use challenges.
Through their Programmatic Grants, United Way plays a pivotal role in enabling CMHA Calgary to deliver essential programs that foster resilience and mental well-being. These include Recovery College, Peer Support, the School of Peer Support, and Community Education offerings such as YouthSMART, KidSMART, EQUIPPED, and Workplace Sessions.
Uniting for Connection and Growth
The re-opening of our Welcome Centre and Recovery College has brought a renewed sense of possibility for Calgarians. Over 2,000 participants have engaged with Recovery College’s free resilience-building courses, finding healing and connection in a welcoming, inclusive space.
“Re-opening the Welcome Centre and Recovery College felt like a breath of fresh air—a new beginning,” shares Jytte, Team Lead for Recovery College and Peer Support. “Participants expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to connect and grow in recovery- and wellness-focused ways.”
Our School of Peer Support has also seen significant growth, doubling its student intake. This program equips individuals with lived experience to support others while advancing their own recovery, fostering a foundation for meaningful and lasting impact.
Supporting the United Way Campaign: Change Starts with You
United Way’s annual campaign highlights the importance of collective action in building a healthier Calgary.
“CMHA Calgary’s programs provide vital opportunities for mental health education and well-being,” UWCA emphasizes. “By supporting initiatives like Recovery College and the School of Peer Support, we create safe spaces for community members to enhance mental health literacy, recover from struggles, and build resilience for the future.”
United Way’s campaign is a call to action for all of us. A single donation supports a network of programs and services that ensures help is always available to those who need it most.
