Community Appreciation: January – March 2021

By

As we continue to navigate through this difficult time, CMHA Calgary wants to reflect on the generosity and support we’ve received since starting the new year.

If you’re ever interested in hosting a community fundraiser or donating a portion of sales from a fundraising initiative to CMHA Calgary, please fill out our Community Fundraiser Form.

Community Support

Benevity

Before the year 2020 passed, our community partners at Benevity matched all public donations, up to $50,000, for CMHA Calgary’s programs and services with their Matching Unicorns campaign. The fundraiser was able to raise over $45,000!

Crock A Doodle

Crock A Doodle offered two creative activities, the Smile Tile and Conversation Mug kit, that can be done from the comfort of home with family or virtually with friends or neighbours.

  • The Smile Tile Kit included a ceramic tile to design and write a cheerful, positive message. For every Smile Tile Kit purchase, Crock A Doodle donated $2 to CMHA Calgary.
  • The Conversation Mug Kit included a 12oz mug that was used as a base for a joyful message. For every Conversation Mug Kit purchase, Crock A Doodle donated $5 to CMHA Calgary.

Citizen Rage

Canadian artist Citizen Rage designed “Hug Your Homies” t-shirts and zip-up hoodies with $5 of each sale going towards CMHA Calgary.  In total, they raised $210 for CMHA Calgary!

Trolley 5 Brewhouse

Local 17th Avenue restaurant Trolley 5 Brewpub chose us as one of their charities to donate 100% of sales from one of their 20L keg purchases in their Brewing Kindness initiative. In total, they donated $190 to CMHA Calgary!

Run Calgary

Run Calgary created their first-ever movement challenge called Winter Moves. Their goal is to get members of the community to move outdoors for a total of 80 hours in 90 days between the first day of winter on December 21, 2020, to the first day of spring on March 20, 2021.

Participants can run, walk, hike, fat-tire bike, skate, snowshoe and cross-country or downhill ski right into the Spring season. Funds raised during Winter Moves will go towards CMHA Calgary’s ongoing delivery of programs and services.

Grazie Box

Calgary small business, Grazie Box creates individually crafted grazing boxes of fresh food items such as meats, cheeses, fruits and snacks.

They are a thoughtful gift to send to someone you appreciate which aligns with the business name and Korean term, grà·zie, meaning thanks. Grazie Box donated 15% of sales from a busy weekend in January to CMHA Calgary.

FOR THE ONES

Local clothing brand, FOR THE ONES, creates items that normalize and promote mental health conversations. Since the beginning of 2021, the majority of sales proceeds have been placed towards local mental health initiatives including CMHA Calgary.

Marshall Springs Middle School

The Grade 7 students from Marshall Springs School chose CMHA Calgary as their charity of choice to support this past holiday season. Through a candy drive, they raised $800 for our programs and services. Check out the video that was presented to the students on Bell Let’s Talk Day.

Undracard Boxing

Local boxing studio UndrCard sold two-class passes in memory of a trainer who died by suicide. Unfortunately, the boxing classes were postponed due to provincial health restrictions as well as mass gym closures

However, the studio still managed to send their generous donation of over $2,500 to CMHA Calgary.

We cannot express how much we appreciate the continuous generosity from our local community members to support local mental health programs.

Stay tuned for our next blog post showcasing even more incredible community support!
