The Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region (CMHA Calgary) is excited to announce that the application period for the 2024 School of Peer Support is now OPEN! This transformative program, designed to train individuals with lived experience of mental health or substance use concerns, is made possible through the generous support of Cenovus Energy.

The School of Peer Support empowers participants to harness their personal experiences to help others on their recovery journeys. This innovative program is a cornerstone of CMHA Calgary’s mission to foster resilience and mental well-being within the community.

Quote from Kyla reading, "[Peer Support] is allowing me to have more more productive personal relationships – to be a better friend, and to help people when they are reaching out. It’s been empowering.”

Cenovus Energy’s commitment to community health and well-being has been instrumental in the success of the School of Peer Support. Their support enables CMHA Calgary to provide comprehensive training that equips peer supporters with the skills they need to make a meaningful impact.

The program covers a range of topics, including active listening, boundaries, self-care, and non-violent crisis intervention, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to support others while maintaining their own wellness. Graduates of the program go on to provide invaluable support in various settings, including CMHA Calgary’s own programs, community organizations, and within the broader healthcare system.
